Publisher 4.6 demo
I have used version 4.03 for a number of years so I thought I would see what version 4.6 had to offer.
The demo has now come to and end but I cannot revert to 4.03. I have uninstalled then reinstalled.
I can open an existing file direct from the file but cannot open a file or create a new document from within the program
Help

Re: Publisher 4.6 demo
It sounds like the file browser got removed when you uninstalled, but for some reason does not get installed when you re-installed Publisher.
Would I be correct in assuming that the program all works fine, but when you go to "New" or "Open" either from the menus or from the Welcome dialog, nothing happens (or the Welcome dialog quickly closes and opens).
Our usual advice for this problem is just to re-run the install.
However if this doesn't work - If you open up Windows Explorer and go to C:\Windows\System32 and look for a file called browse.ocx. If this file is not there then there is something exceedingly strange going on (or you are running 64bit Windows Vista in which case it is in a different folder)
If the file is there:
Close Windows Explorer
Click the "Start" menu and click "Run" (or if you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, click in the "search..." box)
Type:
regsvr32.exe C:\Windows\System32\browse.ocx
Click "OK"
You should get a message which says something like "browse.ocx was successfully register". If not please take a note of the full error message and post back to this thread.
If it was successful then Publisher should hopeful run correctly.

Re: Publisher 4.6 demo
Apologies for dropping off the planet for a while there, I need a better life ordering system.
Well the good news is that the browse.ocx is there, the bad news is that there could be lots of things that could cause that error message. It usually means that one of the files that it browse.ocx depends on to run is not there.
The best way to narrow it down is to download Dependency Walker from http://www.dependencywalker.com/. This will tell you what is missing.
You don't need to install anything, just download the latest version of Dependency Walker, extract the files to a temporary folder and then run the file depends.exe which you have just extracted.
From the "File" menu choose "Open" and open C:\Windows\System32\browse.ocx
It should come up and tell you that one or more of the dependencies are missing, with either a "?" in a yellow circle or a "!" in a red circle next to the names of the files that are missing or have problems.
If you note what they are we should be able to sort them out.
Apologies again for taking a while to reply.

Error: At least one required implicit or forwarded dependency was not found.
Warning: At least one delay-load dependency module was not found.
Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module.
Thanks again

Re: Publisher 4.6 demo
Ah, I know exactly what the problem is. It is the opposite of what I had original said in my first reply.
The browser didn't get uninstalled when you uninstalled the demo (it is what should happen if you install multiple versions of Publisher on the same machine, or it can happen if Windows loses count... which it can do), so it is still using the new one which needs grengine.dll.
I will sort you out a patch when I'm back in work first thing on Monday morning.
(dwmapi.dll is only used on Windows Vista and later and the program knows it doesn't actually need it for anything else)

Re: Publisher 4.6 demo
Many, many apologies, I'd got it all ready last Monday, but then things got interesting. Sorry.
The patch is available from http://greenstreet-online.com/downloader.aspx?id=Patches%5CGrenginePatch.exe.
If you download and run it, and then run regsvr32.exe as I described in my first post.
Hopefully it should fix the problems.
Apologies again.

Re: Publisher 4.6 demo
Glad it is all working now. Sorry for all the hassle and that it has taken so long to fix.
Thanks
Bart
Thanks
