Publisher 4.6 spell checker
I have installed publisher 4.6 on an XP system. Every time I load an exieting document i receive an Alert
saying :
Spelling check completed. None of the text was checked; you do not have the appropriate language dictionary installed.
This reappears upto three times when I acknowledge the alert by entering OK.
The system is usable but this alert is annoying . It also appears at times when I invoke the spell check but it appears to be doing a spell check.
I never had this problem with 4.3
Anybody know how to fix this.

Re: Publisher 4.6 spell checker
What language is the document in? Our new spell checking engine in version 4.6 currently has a slightly different set of supported languages than the spell checker in previous version, although we are working to extend the number of supported languages to remove this difference.
The fact that you get the message box appearing multiple times is rather odd. I will get our technical team to look into this issue.

the problem only occurs if "highlight misspelt words" is checked.

Re: Publisher 4.6 spell checker
Hmm, English (UK) is definitely a supported language. It is the language we all use here in the office.
Speaking to our technical guys it sounds like the spelling engine is not getting properly loaded for some reason. They are currently looking into the problem and I will let you know once they get back to me.
Just so they can narrow down their investigations - when you mentioned that you had version 4.23; was it installed on the same computer and if so did you uninstall the old version before installing version 4.6?

Re: Publisher 4.6 spell checker
Yes the old version was on the same machine and yes I removed it before installing 4.6 from a downloaded V-VCD-GS-00104.exe ver1.0.0.1.
The problem definitely appears to be due to the initialising of the spell checker as it occurs when opening an old (4.23 or earlier) file [or a file saved or "saved as" with a different name by 4.6 which was derived from a 4.23 or earlier file] with "highlight misspelt words" on. It also happens when "highlight misspelt words" is turned on, that is on saving the changes to preferences to the spell check options.
With "highlight misspelt words" off the problem occurs when invoking spell checking. Some times the alert can appear more than 3 times in this situation if "Words with numbers" and "capitalised words" are checked. But if these options are not checked the alert appears 3 times at the start and then at times during the spell check and again at the end.
Files created completely by 4.6 do not seem to give rise to the problem so it would appear to be a problem with reading files from or derived from earlier versions of Publisher. As most of my work involves modifying fixture cards, programmes, scorecards etc dating back from several years ago it is a pain. However looking at my archives the problem only occurs with files from about mid 2003, earlier files do not seem to be affected so it is probably something to do with changes brought in with 4.1 or 4.2.
If tech support need them I van e-mail copies of affected files.

Re: Publisher 4.6 spell checker
If you could send us a copy of the affected files that would be most helpful.
Our technical guys have got a couple of thoughts what could be causing the issues you describe, so hopefully we should be able to resolve the problem.
I will email you directly to say where to send the files, if that is ok.
Thanks

Re: Publisher 4.6 spell checker
By trial and error I have discovered that going through a document paragraph by paragraph changing the language to English under 4.6 clears the problem. It would seem that 4.6 doesn't properly recognise whatever indication was stored for English(default) in version 4.
