Running software as administrator under Vista and XP Empty Running software as administrator under Vista and XP

Hi,

There are a large number of older products which will not run unless you are running in the context of an Administrator account. This is more common for Windows Vista but is also the case for Windows XP, although most users in XP are already administrators due to the restricted nature of the standard account under this version of Windows. The standard user account under Vista has far more relaxed rules meaning more people have standard user accounts under this version of Windows.

To run as an administrator you can follow these rules:

VISTA:
(1) Right-click on the program you want to run (click the icon with the right button of the mouse).
(2) Select "Run as administrator.." from the menu.
(3) If prompted, enter the appropriate administrator credentials and click the Submit button.

XP:
(1) Right-click on the program you want to run (click the icon with the right button of the mouse).
(2) Select "Run as.." from the menu.
(3) Click the radio button next to "The following user:"
(4) Select an administrator account from the drop down list, and enter the password.

The administrator account crudentials depend on the setup of your machine. You may just be able to use the "Administrator" account with no password, or you may have to ask whoever set your machine up for an administrator account username and password.
